State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine today announced that, for the first time, New Yorkers will be given the opportunity to come up with the theme of the 2013 Great New York State Fair. New Yorkers have until March 15, 2013 to submit ideas for a theme to statefairideas@agriculture.ny.gov.
“This is just one more way we are giving New Yorkers even more of a stake in their 2013 Great New York State Fair,” Commissioner Aubertine said. “New Yorkers are creative, innovative and they think big. I want every New Yorker to start thinking big when it comes to this Fair. In the end, this Fair belongs to all New Yorkers and all New Yorkers deserve to have their voices heard when it comes to the premier attraction in New York State.”
“This is a tremendous opportunity for one lucky New Yorker to name the theme of one of the largest events of the year,” said State Fair Director Thomas Ryan. “I know that I’m walking into the Fairgrounds with a lot of ideas, but I want to hear even more ideas from my fellow New Yorkers. I’m looking for great ideas on a new theme and also looking for feedback on how we can put on the best possible show in 2013.”
The Great New York State Fair is an annual celebration of the economic, cultural and institutional strengths indigenous to New York, with a special emphasis on agriculture as one of the State’s largest and most important industries. Theme submissions should aim to convey this message. Previous themes included: “Discover America in the Heart of NY” and “It Just Keeps Growing and Growing.”
On March 18, 2013, Commissioner Aubertine and State Fair Director Ryan will go through the submissions for the 2013 Fair theme. They will narrow these themes down to ten. On March 19, 2013, all New Yorkers will be given an opportunity to vote for the theme of the 2013 Great New York State Fair on the Great New York State Fair’s Facebook page, located at https://www.facebook.com/nysfair. The theme will be announced on April 1, 2013 once all votes are received.
When submitting theme ideas, please include your name, area of the state you live in, and a number where you can be reached.
The 2013 Great New York State Fair will run from Aug. 22 to Sept. 2, 2013.
