2013 New York State Fair Job Fair

Friday, June 7, 2013 • 9:00am to 1:00pm

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Division of the State Fair, is seeking individuals who are interested in temporary employment for the annual 2013 New York State Fair, August 22 – September 2.

There are a variety of assignments including: cleaning, general labor/maintenance, ticket takers, ushers and other miscellaneous positions.

The inability to work all twelve days of the Fair will limit available assignments. The work hours, hourly rate and duration of employment varies by assignment. Certain positions are needed 3 to 6 days before and/or after the Fair. Applicants may be subject to background investigation/criminal history checks. Positions for applicants under the age of 18 will require working papers and are limited. The Department does not directly employ the food vendors or concessionaires.

General Mechanic • Hourly Hiring Rate: $18.49

Minimum Qualifications: Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journey-level position which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school, institute or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.

State Fair Worker • Hourly Hiring Rate: From minimum wage up to $15.00 (rate varies by assignment)

State Fair Workers perform routine manual tasks, including grounds work, cleaning, parking, and maintenance services as members of a work crew. Clerical positions perform office support, typing, filing, and clerical tasks in support of State Fair operations.

Temporary, Year-Round, On-Call Positions

State Fair Worker – Parking or Events Crew

Equipment Operator

Parking or Events Crew: Hourly Hiring Rate – $8.00

Work hours and days vary, the positions are on-call and used as-needed for events held on the State Fairgrounds on a year-round basis, For Parking, the duties include directing traffic to parking areas and setting up cone and/or signs. For Events, the duties include janitorial work, building maintenance and customer service.

Equipment Operator: Hourly Hiring Rate – $12.58

May be assigned to use equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, floor scrubbers, tractors, skid steers, back hoes and street sweepers.
