The New York State Departments of Labor, and Agriculture and Markets today announced a partnership to fill 1,200 staff positions at the annual Great New York State Fair, which starts on August 22.
The recruitment sessions will take place at the New York State Fairgrounds:
- Thursday, June 6, from 3 to 7 p.m.
- Friday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Hiring managers will be accepting applications and conducting interviews this Thursday and Friday for jobs, which include security guards, bathroom attendants, cleaners and many other positions.
“These employees are the backbone of the Great New York State Fair and they keep it safe, clean and running smoothly,” said Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. “I encourage anyone interested and qualified to apply for these jobs.”
About 400 people were already hired at a similar job fair in March.
“For someone who has been out of work for a while, these jobs are a good chance to refresh their resume and likely learn new skills,” said Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera. “We have a need for a wide range of employees, each one playing an important role.”
“The Great New York State Fair continues to gear up every day in preparation for this annual extravaganza and a quality staff plays an integral role in ensuring its success,” said State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine. “I thank Commissioner Rivera and his staff the Department of Labor for their continued assistance in helping us recruit a quality workforce for this year’s Fair. I encourage New Yorkers to visit these important recruitment sessions this week.”
The Fair, New York State’s largest annual event, will run from August 22 through September 2.
The work hours, hourly rate and duration of employment vary by assignment. Applicants may be subject to background investigation/criminal history checks. Positions for applicants under the age of 18 will require working papers and are limited.
